The coins are round in shape with a raised rim on the obverse and the reverse. The coins’ edge is grained.

Obverse

at the top — the relief image of the State Coat of Arms of the Republic of Belarus and a circumferential inscription РЭСПУБЛIКА БЕЛАРУСЬ (THE REPUBLIC OF BELARUS); in the center — the stylized image of the globe and the lines symbolizing scientific idea; beneath — denomination: 10 РУБЛЁЎ (10 RUBLES) on the silver coin and 1 РУБЕЛЬ (1 RUBLE) on the copper-nickel coin, and the year of issue (alloy standard shown on the silver coin).

Reverse

in the center — the image of the front of the building of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus; and circumferential inscriptions: at the top — НАЦЫЯНАЛЬНАЯ АКАДЭМIЯ НАВУК БЕЛАРУСI (THE NATIONAL ACADEMY OF SCIENCES OF BELARUS), beneath — 80 ГОД (THE 80TH ANNIVERSARY).
