The OECD high-level conference on financial education will be held in Minsk

A high-level conference on the project of Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) in the field of financial education in the countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) will be held in Minsk on September 19, 2017.

The OECD is leading a three-year project on technical assistance in financial education in the CIS countries with the financial support of the Ministry of Finance of the Russian Federation. Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan became the participants of the project.

The objectives of the project are the development and implementation of specific recommendations on the main policy directions in financial education, technical assistance in developing, implementing and scientifically sound assessing the efficiency of national strategies in the field of financial education in the CIS countries.

Representatives of the management of the OECD specialized structure – the International Financial Education Network (INFE), the Ministry of Finance of the Russian Federation, the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus, relevant agencies of the Republic of Belarus and the project participating countries, international experts and researchers in the field of financial education will take part in the conference.

The conference will lay the foundation for a practical dialogue between the OECD and the financial authorities of the project participating countries on the possibilities of using financial education to solve economic problems in the CIS countries and the OECD plans to support current and forthcoming regional events in the field of financial literacy. The key topics of the conference will be discussed in detail on September 20 at a practical seminar for project participants.

The OECD (Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development), an international economic organization of developed countries that recognize the principles of representative democracy and a free market economy, has been engaged in financial education issues since 2003. In connection with a positive world assessment of financial education activities, the OECD has expanded the project to increase financial literacy by creating the International Financial Education Network (INFE) in 2008. At present, there are more than 240 institutions from 110 countries that are members of the INFE / OECD, which goes far beyond the OECD membership.

In the Republic of Belarus the National Bank organizes the work on improving financial literacy at the national level. The Joint Action Plan of Government Agencies and Financial Market Participants on Improving Financial Literacy of the Population of the Republic of Belarus for 2013-2018, approved by Resolution of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Belarus and the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus, is being implemented in the country.

The strategy of the development of the financial market of the Republic of Belarus until 2020 provides for the development of a new joint action plan of government agencies and financial market participants on increasing financial literacy of the population for 2019-2024.
