The coins are round in shape with a raised rim on the obverse and the reverse. The coins’ edge is grained.

Obverse

at the top — the relief image of the State Coat of Arms of the Republic of Belarus; in the center — the stylized silhouetted images of the skylarks and elements of Belarusian folk ornaments against a spinning wheel, the symbol of perpetual motion, whose pattern is changing into the structure of tree rings; beneath — the year of issue (the alloy standard on the silver coin); circumferential inscriptions: at the top — РЭСПУБЛIКА БЕЛАРУСЬ (THE REPUBLIC OF BELARUS), at the bottom — 20 РУБЛЁЎ (20 RUBLES) on the silver coin and 1 РУБЕЛЬ (1 RUBLE) on the copper-nickel one.

Reverse

in the center — the stylized image of a skylark with its wings spread and its plumage resembling the pattern of plowed field furrows. The image is marked with a rhombus and a sidelong cross which show a symbolic link between the bird and the earth and the Divine Principle, beneath — the silhouette of a sower; in the right-hand part at the bottom — a circumferential inscription: ЛЕГЕНДА ПРА ЖАВАРАНКА (THE LEGEND OF THE SKYLARK).
