The coins are rectangular in shape with a raised rim on the obverse and the reverse. The coin’s edge is reeded.

Obverse

in the centre — the ornamental pattern in the form of the grapevine symbolizing the Theotokos with the representation of the cross therein which was erected in the territory of Zaslavl’s stronghold to commemorate the thousandth anniversary of the Orthodox Church in Belarus and the alloy standard; at the top — the relief image of the State Coat of Arms of the Republic of Belarus and the inscription in two lines: РЭСПУБЛİКА БЕЛАРУСЬ (THE REPUBLIC OF BELARUS); and at the bottom — the denominations: 20, 50, 500 and 1000 РУБЛЁЎ (20, 50, 500 and 1,000 RUBLES) and the year of issue to the right of the denomination.

Reverse

in the centre — the image of the Most Holy Theotokos of Minsk (on silver coins with denominations of 20 and 500 rubles the representations of the Theotokos’s and Jesus Christ’s halos, the star on the Theotokos’s cloths, and the ornamental pattern are gold-plated); and at the bottom — an inscription: МІНСКАЯ (OF MINSK).
