The coins are round in shape with a raised rim on the obverse and the reverse. The coins’ edge is reeded.

Obverse

at the top – the relief image of the State Coat of Arms of the Republic of Belarus; in the center – the representation of a little bird held in the palms and the year of issue beneath it (and the alloy standard on the silver coin); and circumferential inscriptions: at the top – РЭСПУБЛІКА БЕЛАРУСЬ (THE REPUBLIC OF BELARUS) and at the bottom – the denomination: 10 РУБЛЁЎ (10 RUBLES) on the silver coin and 1 РУБЕЛЬ (1 RUBLE) on the copper-nickel one.

Reverse

in the center – the relief image of the hoopoe (it has been named bird of the year 2013 in Belarus); and circumferential inscriptions: on the right side – УДОД (THE HOOPOE) and on the left side – ПТУШКА ГОДА (BIRD OF THE YEAR).
