Progress in Implementing the TWINNING Project was Discussed at the Meeting with the EU Parliament Delegation

The progress in implementing the EU TWINNING project "Strengthening the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus" was discussed on October 30, 2018 at the meeting of the EU Parliament delegation being on a visit to Minsk with the managers of the organizational units of the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus participating in the TWINNING project.

"The National Bank has become the first public body in Belarus engaged in a TWINNING project by the European Union. We are conscious of its complexity and scale and we are committed to implement it professionally and responsibly", said Aleksey Lesnoi, Head of the International Cooperation Directorate of the National Bank, at the meeting with the EU Parliament members. He added, "To date the Project has covered half of its way and we can see good progress in almost all the components".

Twining is a new form of direct cooperation between the authorities of the EU member states and the Republic of Belarus. It envisages the transfer of advanced experience of the government agencies of the EU member states to their Belarusian partners. Since January 2018, the National Bank in partnership with consortium composed of Deutsche Bundesbank, Narodowy bank Polski and the Bank of Lithuania has been implementing a project "Strengthening the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus" in the framework of the EU TWINNING programme.

The project involves the adoption of a number of measures aimed at strengthening the payment system, enhancing financial stability, improving banking supervision and financial risk management, as well as streamlining the protection of consumers of financial services and the information policy of the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus.
