Foreign Portfolio Investments
Portfolio investments are a category of foreign investments associated with debt securities or equity securities, other than those included in direct investments or reserve assets.
The sixth edition of the International Monetary Fund's Balance of Payments and International Investment Position Manual (IMF, 2009), the Coordinated Portfolio Investment Survey Guide (IMF, 2002) and other relevant IMF editions provide the methodological framework for compilation of the foreign portfolio investment data.
This section presents portfolio investments position statistics broken by equity securities and debt securities by the countries where portfolio investment enterprises are situated (portfolio investment abroad). Depending on the original maturity debt securities are classified into long-term and short-term ones.
