The coins are round in shape with the raised rim on the obverse and the reverse. The coins’ edge is grained.

Obverse

in the center – the relief image of the State Coat of Arms of the Republic of Belarus; beneath – the year of issue (on the silver coin on the left – alloy standard); at the top – a circumferential inscription: РЭСПУБЛIКА БЕЛАРУСЬ (THE REPUBLIC OF BELARUS); and at the bottom – a circumferential inscription: 20 РУБЛЁЎ (20 RUBLES) on the silver coin and 1 РУБЕЛЬ (1 RUBLE) on the copper–nickel coin.

Reverse

in the center – the image of a heraldic symbol – the emblem of the financial bodies of the Republic of Belarus; at the top – a circumferential inscription: РЭСПУБЛIКА БЕЛАРУСЬ (THE REPUBLIC OF BELARUS); and at the bottom – a circumferential inscription: 90 ГОД (90 YEARS).
