The coins are round in shape with a raised rim on the obverse and the reverse. The coins’ edge is grained.
Obverse
at the top – the relief image of the State Coat of Arms of the Republic of Belarus; in the center – the image of ancient Slavic symbols of virgin and youthful virtues – deities Lada and Lel, standing on the basis of a triangular decorative composition including the symbols of life, family, and the Sun; beneath – the year of issue (and the alloy standard on the silver coin) and the denomination: 20 РУБЛЁЎ (20 RUBLES) on the silver coin and 1 РУБЕЛЬ (1 RUBLE) on the copper–nickel one; at the top – a circumferential inscription: РЭСПУБЛІКА БЕЛАРУСЬ (THE REPUBLIC OF BELARUS).
Reverse
in the center – a pad-printed image of a blooming apple branch symbolizing the youth and beauty; on the left – the image of a belt that symbolizes coming of age (the age of majority); on the right – the image of a tress – a symbol of virgin beauty; at the bottom – a circumferential inscription: ПАЎНАЛЕЦЦЕ (THE AGE OF MAJORITY).
