The coins are rectangular in shape with a raised rim on the obverse and the reverse. The coins’ edge is reeded.
Obverse
in the centre — the ornamental pattern in the form of the grapevine symbolizing the Theotokos with the representation of the cross therein which was erected in the territory of Zaslavl’s stronghold to commemorate the thousandth anniversary of the Orthodox Church in Belarus and the alloy standard; at the top — the relief image of the State Coat of Arms of the Republic of Belarus and the inscription in two lines: РЭСПУБЛİКА БЕЛАРУСЬ (THE REPUBLIC OF BELARUS); and at the bottom — the denominations: 20, 50, 500 and 1000 РУБЛЁЎ (20, 50, 500 and 1000 RUBLES) and the year of issue to the right of the denomination.
Reverse
the image of the Most Holy Theotokos of Smolensk (the representations of the Theotokos and Jesus Christ’s halos and the star on the Theotokos’s cloths are gold-plated on the coin of 20 and 500 rubles); and at the bottom — the inscription: СМАЛЕНСКАЯ (OF SMALENSK).
