The coins are round in shape with a raised rim on the obverse and the reverse. The coins’ edge is grained.

Obverse

in the center within the circle – the relief image of the State Coat of Arms of the Republic of Belarus, circumferential inscriptions: at the top – РЭСПУБЛІКА БЕЛАРУСЬ (THE REPUBLIC OF BELARUS), beneath – the denomination: 20 РУБЛЁЎ (20 RUBLES) on the silver coin and 1 РУБЕЛЬ (1 RUBLE) on the copper-nickel one; within the field of external circle – the stylized image of a water surface; beneath – the year of issue (to the right) and the alloy standard (to the left) (on the silver coin).

Reverse

in the center – the stylized image of sportsmen in the mirror image: at the top – in a canoe, beneath – in a kayak; circumferential inscriptions: at the top – ВЕСЛАВАННЕ НА БАЙДАРКАХ І КАНОЭ (ROWING AND CONOEING), beneath – АЛІМПІЙСКІЯ ГУЛЬНІ 2016 г. (OLYMPIC GAMES 2016).
